World Breastfeeding Week Walk a Huge Success

Walkers

On July 29th, 2006 we had our first Seacoast Area La Leche League World Breastfeeding Week Walk. At 10:30am, 14 moms, 1 dad, and a host of children set out for a 1.5 mile walk through downtown Dover in the 95 degree heat. Among them they managed to raise over $1000 in pledges.

Thanks to our collaboration with Gypsy Mama, LLC we were able to distribute beautiful tote bags to our walkers. If you missed the event but would like to purchase one of the tote bags for $3, contact Alyssa at seacoastarealll@gmail.com or call at 859-0447.

Once back at Henry Law Park, we enjoyed a picnic lunch under the trees while Group member Colleen and her husband Adam put their time and sweat into selling raffle tickets to all who came by. Their hard work helped to raise an additional $70 for the Group and many walkers and supporters received prizes donated by generous businesses. See the bottom of the page for a list of businesses that contributed to our success.

We also had a yard sale running throughout the day, staffed by dads Mark Kelewae and Cole Tuininga. Group members donated many items for sale, and we managed to raise an additional $300.

The fundraising part of the day was very successful. Including over $400 in cash donations from supporting businesses, we raised over $1500. Over $900 will go towards supporting our local Group. Additionally the rest of the money raised will go towards supporting breastfeeding on the regional and national level.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week with us, and all the volunteers who helped to make this day possible.
